Patole opted for voluntary retirement from a government job in 1993 to concentrate on creative writing. Starting with short stories, he wrote one-act plays which fetched awards at various drama competitions. He had also written the screenplay of Mahesh Kothare's hit film Zapatlela 2 released a couple of years ago.
